Intralesional or pulsed dye laser therapy: $190-$360
3-4 visits of cryotherapy: $610
Typical costs:
The cost of wart removal varies based on the size and number of warts, their location on the body and the method of treatment used. Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus, and can be contagious or cause irritation and pain; removal generally is covered by health insurance. The American Academy of Family Physicians[1] offers a primer on warts.
Wart removal typically costs $30 or less for home treatment with an over-the-counter product.
Wart removal typically costs about $190 total for intralesional immunotherapy, a relatively new removal method that usually requires three treatments.
Wart removal typically costs about $360 total for pulsed dye laser therapy, which usually requires one to three treatments.
Wart removal typically costs $610 total for cryotherapy -- or, freezing. That includes and initial visit and three to four follow-up treatments.
Most over-the-counter products use salicylic acid, and come in various forms -- including gel, liquid, solid stick and stick-on strips or pads.
In intralesional immunotherapy, the physician injects an antigen into the wart, stimulating the immune system to clear the virus causing the wart. If the patient has other warts, those often disappear as well.
In pulsed dye laser therapy, the physician uses a laser to cauterize the blood vessels that supply the wart; deprived of blood supply, the wart usually sloughs off.
In cryotherapy, the physician sometimes pares the skin over the wart, then applies liquid nitrogen to the wart for 10 and 30 seconds and puts a bandage over the wart. Cryotherapy usually is used for plantar warts -- warts on the bottom of the foot that have grown inward because of the pressure of walking -- and often for common warts.
Additional costs:
Multiple warts can be more expensive to treat -- sometimes as much as triple the cost, depending on the type of treatment.
Not all treatments are effective, and multiple treatments sometimes must be used before total removal can be achieved. Sometimes a chemotherapeutic agent, Bleomycin, is used as a last-resort treatment for warts that do not respond to other therapies. It usually requires only one treatment, and costs about $495.
Discounts:
Tip: For less than $10, duct tape can be used at home to remove a wart not on the genitals or face, but it can take up to two months. The American Academy of Family Physicians[2] gives instructions
Warts often will clear up on their own if left alone, but this can take months or years.
Shopping for wart removal:
Warts can sometimes be self-treated with over-the-counter products, but this can take weeks or months. People with diabetes or other major illnesses, or those who are concerned about scarring at the site of the wart, should see a doctor. Walgreens.com and CVS.com offer a variety of non-prescription treatments.
Warts also can be professionally removed by a general practitioner or a dermatologist. Genital warts should always be treated by a professional. Consult your general practitioner about treatment. Or, The American Academy of Dermatology[3] offers a list of board-certified dermatologists by location.

Shock at the cost for one treatment! Literally the dermatologist spent seconds diagnosing and seconds to use liquid nitrogen. We were in and out in less than 5 minutes. Out of the $420 billed I owe $170. And my son still needs another treatment. As another commenter said, silly that they call and bill freezing off a wart with a blast of liquid nitrogen externally as surgery.
Was not expecting to be billed $118 to have 5 warts frozen and i’m not insured. I have a stubborn wart on my left thumb that i’ve been treating with Compound W Freeze Off and four warts on my right forearm. Follow up in a month with dermatologist.
Didn't work with two sessions. Bought an over the counter cryotherapy Compound Freeze from Amazon for $24 and it did the exact same thing. Worked well after 3 more treatments.
Neither I, nor the doctor (I asked while there) had any idea that it would cost this much. I had 4 warts on one hand. I was in for office visit for a separate issue and incidentally asked about treating the warts. The doctor also suggested injecting yeast under one of the warts as apparently that helps the immune system target the virus. The treatment was successful but very surprisingly expensive.
I had two and they fell off but a week later they were back and within a year and a half,I now have 10 wart total(3 on one finger 6 on another and 1 in my palm) everyone keeps saying they will go away but instead I get more and more and they are beginning to hurt an awful lot. I don’t have the money to remove it so I’m just going to wait and save up for laser
Put ACV on some tissue paper, put a band aid over it twice a day for 1 week, wart scabbed over and scab fell off after 10 days from beginning of treatment. Three weeks later wart is still gone.
I love how the doctors, who spray some liquid nitrogen on you, call it 'surgery'. My bill was $400 for two warts, plus another $100 for the 'consultation.' I think I'll try apple cider vinegar next time, maybe even the duct tape method. Healthcare is too expensive in the USA.
Quoted $50 on the phone per wart. Charged $100 by the office. Cash price. Treated one on the top of the hand and one on the outer thigh after OTC treatments failed. Two weeks later the scabs are falling off and seem to be healing well. 34 yo male.
Doctor applied Cantharidin “beetle juice” . Took 2 weeks to fall off. Didn’t know it was going to cost 178.00. Wish I would have bought salicylic acid and kept applying and covering wart for less then $20. Never had a wart so didn’t know what it was on child’s foot. (Live and learn).
I've dealt with these for the last 3 years. They come and go. I had planter warts when i was youngerand treated them myself because the doctors just kept freezing them. Out ofdesparation i used dr scholls Corn remover and left it on for about a week. Those suckers came out with the root and never were seen again. But now they are on my pelvis and I'm about to do the same because freezing is not working and I've spent enough cash.
Both visits were $254. Both times insurance was billed $399 and the contractual adjustment was -$145. I had to do two visits and I feel like it still may need one more.
after having one burned off of pinky finger...cauterized also...by dermatologist...in only 3 weeks, seven more appeared...two at a time, now large. they spread from nuckel to first joint bone at end of pinky finger, and one appeared on ring finger of other hand. needless to say, I wont touch the single one, I cover it with bandaid, and the seven...ive tried everything. ive been back to derm who has sprayed them twice..liquid nitro does absolutely nothing what so ever....they just got bigger. next is lazer surgery...im depressed over this and I have no money for lazer...wish some dr. can do a charity case in the brunwick area...lol..ive had enough with cancer and surgeries, this is the icing on the cake...I got to be 57 and found out what it was to have a wart.....and than some.
